Memory Verse (week 14)

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
If one falls down, his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

Ecclesiastes 4 : 9 - 10

So High & Solo (week 14)

A contractor working by himself was injured while trying to demolish a brick chimney that was on top of a four-story building. This is his testimony: "After tearing down the chimney, I thought I would get the bricks down in one load myself. I rigged a rope and bucket o a pulley and hoisted the bucket up to the roof and tied off the rope at the sidewalk. I then walked up four flights of stairs to the roof and loaded all of the bricks into the bucket. I returned to the sidewalk and untied the rope.

"I weighed 140 pounds and the bucket of bricks weighed about the 500 pounds. I began to ascend rapidly in an upwardly direction, Failing to think clearly at a moment like this, I didn't let go of the rope. Halfway up, I met the bucket of bricks on their way down and this accounts for the cuts and bruises on my upper part body.

"Falling to stop my ascent, the bucket of bricks continued downward at an increasing rate of speed, I quickly reached the top and my hand hit the pulley, breaking my thumb. The bucket of bricks hit the sidewalk. The force of the impact caused the bottom to break, spilling the bricks, This action now sent me heading in a downward direction rapidly. Approximately halfway down, I again intersected with the now-empty bucket, breaking both ankles. I landed on the pile of bricks on the sidewalk that caused three cracked three ribs and mutiple other injuries.

"Regaining my senses, I finally let go of the rope. This caused the bucket to return downward to my exact location resulting in a concussion.

"The moral of my story? Don't try to do big jobs by yourself! Get help from others."

Read and memorize Ecclesiastes 4 : 9 - 10.

Today's story is one of those painful, yet comical stories of what can happen when we fall down and have no one to help us up. Everyone enjoys time alone and we all differ on how much we need, but God made us with a built-in need for each other.

As a Christian, it is vitally important that you have a circle of Christian friends for support, accountability, and encouragement. Write down the names of those friends in your journal. Pray for them regularly. If you don't have a strong Christian friend, pray daily that God will lead you to someone.

Memory Verse (week 13)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given to you as well.

Matthew 6:33

You Busy?

A professor stood before his philosophy class with an empty mayonnaise jar and started filling it with golf balls. When he finished, he asked the students if they believed the jar was full. They all agreed it was.

The professor then poured some pebbles into the jar. They rolled into the open spaces between the golf balls and pebbles. He asked if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The teacher next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. The sand filled in the small gaps between the golf balls and pebbles. He asked if the jar was full. The students, now smiling, answered with a big "yes."

The professor brought out the two cups of coffee and poured both cups into the jar, soaking into the sand. All the students laughed, amazed at all the jar really held.

"This jar represents your life," said the professor as the laughter died down. "The golf balls are the important things - God, your family, health, friends and the passions of your life. The pebbles are things like your job, school, home, and car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff, the details of your life."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for your life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the really important things. Take care of the golf balls first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and asked what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may be, you can always find time for a cup of coffee with a friend." =)

Read Luke 10 : 38 - 42

In this passage, do you think Martha was focused on a "golf ball" or the "coffee?" What about Mary?

Most of us are either a "Mary" or a "Martha." A "Martha" is someone who focuses on what has to be done and how to get it done. A "Mary" is someone who knows that the work will get done when it gets done and wants to forcus on people. "Martha's" are task oriented, while "Mary's" are people-oriented. Both have good qualities and bad quanlities. Jesus was letting Martha know, in this case, Mary wasn't being lazy, but she was placing her focus in the right place.

Do you tend to be a "Martha" or a "Mary?" Where is your focus? God will help you find the balance to life. He will show you when to do what - and even how - as you grow closer to Him.

Ivan : May your focus is in the right place, focus on the big stuff first instead of the small stuff first, praying that you may know how to differentiate things which is more important and things less relevant. God bless

Memory Verse (week 12)

We are therefore Christ's ambassadors,
as though God were making his appeal through us.
We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Stop Doggin' Me! (week 12)

A dog is an important member of many American families. The dog plays with the children, goes on family outing, and usually greets anyone who comes to visit with a wagging tail. But what if that dog gets rabies? Does the family still allow it to play with the children and have the run of the house? Of course not. The disease affects the relationship the dog once had with the family, and in most cases the animal will be put to death. Does the presence of this disease mean that the family no longer loves the dog? Once again, the answer is "no".

You and I have a fatal disease that affects our relationship with our Master. It's called sin. Its effects will result in our spiritual death, but Jesus came to die in our place and to end the threat of our disease. We can have a relationship with God and His family because of the sacrifice of Jesus.

Read 2 Corinthians 5 : 20.

Thank Jesus now for replacing your death with His own and for placing His life into your life. Have a moment of quiet time with Him and pray for forgiveness of your sins. Let His sacrifice to be remember not only for today but in everyday of your life.
