Memory Verse (week 11)

... I move on toward the goal to win the prize.
God has appointed me to win it.
The heavenly prize is Christ Jesus himself.

Philippians 3:14

Sink or Swim? (week 11)

In 1952 Florence Chadwick stepped into the water off an island near the Pacific coast. She was going to be the first woman in history to swim the 27 miles from Catalina Island to the mainland United States. Fog rolled in that day as she plunged into the icy water. A team of family and friends followed in boats to watch sharks and cheer her on.

Florence swam for hours, but with only a half a mile remaining she told her team that she had to quit and get in the boat. Her family desperately tried to encourage her. Florence said she couldn't make another stroke. After she was pulled into the boat, she saw the beach and realized just how close she had been to her goal when she gave up. With much regret, she said, "If I could only have seen the land, I think I could made it."

Have you ever felt like giving up? Read Luke 5 : 1 - 11.

Can you identify with Florence Chadwick? You may feel that many of your own goals and dreams are out of reach - goals in school, job, friendships, future plans, and even in your relationship and service to God. Don't give up; your goal may be closer than you think! Ask God to renew your vision and confidence today and give you the courage to keep on.

To the youth : Let's move on and never give up on serving the Lord every Saturday, Ivan =)

Memory Verse (week 9)

When tempted, no one should say,
"God is tempting me." For God cannot
be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire,
he is dragged away and enticed.

James 1 : 13 - 14

But It's Sooooo Beautiful (week 9)

Have you ever wondered about all those bugs getting eletrocuted every summer night in the purple "bug zappers" hanging in the backyard? You can hear the "zzzt, zzzzt, zzzzt" of the bugs flying to their death. Are they deaf not to hear the bugs before them getting zapped, or blind not to see all the dead insects that have fallen around the light? Is the light so beautiful that they can't resist it? Does every bug think he is stronger than the others and more able to avoid the danger? But in the end, he winds up dead like all the other bugs.

Regardless, all bugs that have gone before him prove that it just doesn't work that way. The more he is around the light, the closer he wants to get it, until he finally gets too close and is shocked to death.

Even though we think those bugs are so stupid, we are a lot like that. We too, can hear all the warnings and see all the negative results of other people's sin, but that won't always keep us away from things that tempt us.

Read James 1 : 13 - 16.

Such desires attract us, just as bug lights attract insects, but we too often think that we're different from everything else and can handle the temptations that cause others to sin. Or we say, "I can quit anytime I want to." Yet every person who has lived before us is proof that it just doesn't work that way. We flirt with our temptations, edging closer and closer, until we give in and make a sinful choice. God has given us plenty of warning signs. Will you pay attention to them or ignore them? Will you be determined or deceived?

Memory Verse (week 8)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition
or vain conceit, but in humility consider
others better than yourselves.

Philippians 2 : 3

In His Sights (week 8)

As a teengaer in western Canada, Terry Fox was active in athletics and well liked by his friends. But nobody ever dreamed that he would attract worldwide attention. It began when doctor discovered that terry had cancer. The prognosis was not good. One of his legs was amputated, but even this did not stop the spread of cancer through his body. Instead of giving up, Terry deermined to do something with his life. He decided to run across Canada from coast to coast, encouraging people to give money for cancer research. Terry pursued his goal with a single-minded passion.

Beginning at the Atlantic coast, his journey covered 3,300 miles in four-and-a-half months. Terry Fox never made it to the Pacific coast, but before he died he had raised 24 million dollars for cancer research from supporters all over the world.

Read Matthew 22 : 34 - 40

According to Jesus, what is the one thing you should pursue with single-mindedness ?

As a Christian, you must love God genuinely and act on that love. How much more could your world and eternity change if you would take up Jesus' call to make first things first? Today, make it your aim. Pray : "Lord, use these quiet moments to help me to know You better. Take first place in my heart. Give me a passion for You and a vision for people."

The Unpredictable & Expected Life

Life is up & down like a wave flowing along with the current. Happiness will gone, sadness will end. The problem is are we ready to let go and move on with our life? Are we been prepare of what is yet to be happen on earth. No matter life is up or is down, there's surely a reason behind. When time of distress, we learned to depend on Him. Time of joy, we learned to praise & thank Him. And faith is the most essential need of our daily life in every moment of up & down. Life is definitely unpredictable. What we do sometimes came out beyond our expectation & it sometimes came out below our expectation - which dissapoint us. We cannot just expect and hope of something instead targeting in doing our part and out best leads to what we hope for. Our target is not the result or the archievement but doing our best. I remembered one statement by Rick Warren it said: "Life is like a marathon, it does not matter how you start but how you end". I believe everyone will think of the future - what it got to be like when I'm old? marriage, career, dream. The world is changing and so to us. Even I don't dare to imagine what I will become in the future. This nature is creating their our rules & laws and no longer living with God's law & principles. Seeing one generation to another falling is a heart break and even myself. Being conform to the earthly desire, filled with greed, hatred, jealousy. But we often forget how God felt? I believe He hurt the most. Even in our spiritual, spirit comes and go and its so hard to grab hold to it. When the spirit gone, we felt a distance between God. And for me, it is the most despair of all time when you felt God is away from you. Living alone without God is impossible. Mentioned about Holy spirit, we must not forget evil spirit as well. For satan is hardworking than us, they are expertise in destroying families, churches and your relationship with God in using all kinds of earthly temptations. Be aware fellow brothers and sisters! I hereby urge strongly to all Christians to move forward as a soldier of Christ. Taking up the challenge with the armor of God - Helmet of salvation, breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, the sword of the spirit & the shield of faith. For He entrusted us with the Gospel so we must trust Him. Standing firm with the Gospel to fight against evil on earth. Writing this blog, also reminds me of Passion Conference again. One statement really struck me on my head by the speaker Loue Giglio :"If you left few minutes to live, what you'll do in using this few minutes of your life? my answer is simple, I will use it to be crazy of Jesus!" Life is short and is just temporary, will you live your life for Him? =)
